What the rating includes
Manufacturers rate the frame for a safe working load. In practice that load includes the mattress, the bedding, any equipment on the bed and the downward force during a transfer. If a patient weighs 200kg, a 225kg rating is not comfortable headroom.
Ask before you order
Where a bed's rating is not published we will confirm it before you buy. If the honest answer is that the frame is not suitable, that is what you will get told. Selling a bed that fails under a patient is not a business we want.
Signs a bed is over-loaded
Cranks that need real force, a frame that flexes visibly at the centre when the patient shifts, castors that splay, and a backrest that creeps down under load. Any of those means the bed is working beyond what it should be. Stop using it and call us rather than waiting for a failure with a patient on it.
