Hospital bed sizes and dimensions

Quick answer: Hospital beds sold in Kenya are typically 2060 to 2100mm long and 900mm wide. Our 2-crank bed is 2060 x 900 x 600mm and the economy bed is 2100 x 900 x 500mm. Mattresses are cut to match, which is why a domestic mattress rarely fits properly.

Where a dimension is not published we will measure the unit in the showroom and tell you, rather than quote a number from a catalogue.

Why 900mm matters

900mm is wider than most domestic single beds and narrower than a double. It is chosen so a caregiver can reach across the patient without climbing on the bed. It is also the number that decides whether the frame clears your door.

Mattress sizing

Buy the mattress for the bed, not for a domestic frame. A mattress that is too short leaves a gap at the foot where heels rest, and one that is too wide bunches against the rails.

Frequently asked questions

What is the standard size of a hospital bed in Kenya?

Around 2060 to 2100mm long and 900mm wide. Height varies by frame and by whether the bed has hi-lo adjustment.

Will a hospital bed fit through a standard door?

Usually, once the head and foot boards are removed. The corridor turn is more often the problem than the door itself.
