Power and sockets
A bed, an oxygen concentrator and a mattress pump all need mains sockets, and they should not share an extension with a kettle. Plan the sockets before delivery day. If your area has long outages, ask the clinical team what backup the patient's oxygen supply requires. That question is far more important than which bed you buy.
Access around the bed
Nurses and technicians need to reach the head of the bed and both sides. Leave the head end clear rather than pushing it flat against a wall. Machines need floor space with cable runs that nobody trips over.
Who decides what
We decide nothing clinical. Oxygen flow, ventilator settings, positioning and suction are managed by the doctor, nurse or respiratory team. Our job is to deliver a bed that can be positioned as they ask, assemble it, and show the caregiver how it works.
