Quick answer: Put the bed where a caregiver can reach the patient from the stronger side, leave 700mm to a metre of standing space, keep the route to the door clear, and put medicines, water and wipes on a locker rather than the floor. Get the layout right before the bed arrives.
Layout
Head of the bed against a wall, access on at least one long side, ideally two. Do not block the window: light and air matter for someone who is in the room all day. Keep the door path free for a wheelchair or a stretcher if one will ever be needed.
Power and light
An electric bed and a mattress pump both need sockets. Add a lamp the caregiver can switch on at night without lighting the whole room. Tape or clip cables so nobody trips at 3am.
Storage and hygiene
Locker at the bedside for daily items. A separate box for linen and supplies, kept off the floor. A bin with a lid within reach of the bed. Wipe-clean surfaces everywhere you can manage it.
